foundation overview #17: Jemma Kidd Light As Air Foundation.

i bought the Jemma Kidd Make Up School Light As Air Foundation back in early july but never came to review it for you, so i will catch up today.
only reason is that to me it's nothing special or impressive that needs informations to be spread out. i bought it on recommendation of youtube beauty guru Tanja Burr a.k.a. pixi2woo who wasn't tired of praising it over and again, so i got very curious. during an 20%-off promotion on lookfantastic.com i picked it up for 20£ instead of 25£.
the box it came in looks very cute, but the tube is just plain and simple. it contains 30ml.
i chose the shade #02 Light which is a pretty good match to an NC20 in MAC's Pro Longwear Foundation - medium fair and quite yellow toned, a good match for me.
it has an spf of 18, the scent is very chemical, almost like wall paint.
its consistency is creamy but not thick. it blends out very easily and evenly, using a traditional brush it gets a bit streaky, though - but with the BeautyBlender (review) i get an airbrush-like finish easily.
this foundation has a very matte finish, it sets and dries quickly.
unfortunately it doesn't have any refining or skin-smoothing abilities, so it's a rather dull matte look that makes your skin look dry and is especially unflattering if you have an uneven skin texture.
even with my oily skin i personally don't like the finish at all. it stays pretty matte and holds my skin oils at bay for a pretty long time, it needs about 3 hours before i start to like the appearance of my complexion, when the foundation melts with my skin oils. even without setting it with powder, the JK Light As Air Foundation lasts on me well, at least 9 hours. with a powder even more and even longer shine-free.
it has a medium-high coverage, covers all of my redness and imperfections very well. it tends to look a bit cakey and mask-like if layered on drier skin areas.
all in all i think it's a good foundation if one has oily skin and wants a matte finish and a good staying power, but if you have uneven skin or like a satin, glowing result, it's nothing for you.

in my overview post, you can find even more foundation reviews.

  2. I think it runs a bit too yellow for my tastes. And I wholeheartedly agree with you - I don't like the finish on your skin at all! Heck. I don't even want to imagine it on my combo skin. Blah!

  4. I'm glad you reviewed this foundation.
I was very curious about it, but since I prefer dewy or natural finish foundations, I'll pass on it.

And I have to say that I really love your blog!
Your reviews are really elaborated and helpful and you have a good taste :)

  6. Great post! Thanks for all the details! I really want to try this foundation out but I'm scared that it will be too dark for me, but the next color down looks too pink toned :(
