FOTD with Sisley, Guerlain and Catrice.

one of the most recent FOTDs where i implemented a "more asian" eyeshadow technique but used a bolder colour to avoid it looking too nice. just tightlining the upper waterline and more black on the outer corners but less colour on the lids and the crease actually. i find that it creates a quite soft but still sultry effect. i also used the BeautyQQ-false-lash-application-technique that i have showed you here.
what do you think? do my eyes look bigger than normal at all? as this might be one of the most important goals in popular asian make up application: fair and even skin, big eyes, dolly cheeks & lips.

for the face - quite spartan ;)

foundation: Sisley Phyto Teint Éclat in #1 Ivory (1 - review) applied with the fingers (!) - not on the pic ;)

concealer: Giorgio Armani Master Corrector in #2 (2) applied with the fingers again (!) ;)

powder & blush: Guerlain Parure de Nuit (3) applied with SUQQU Face Brush (4)

for the eyes:

brows: Shiseido Brow Pencil in GY901 Natural Black (not on the pic, sorry)

lips: Dior Rouge Dior in #298 Beige Indécise (11 - lip swatch)

eye make up:
  • tightlining the upper waterline with matte black liner shade in Guerlain's #68 Champs-Élysées palette (1 - review) and MakeUpShow Small Shader Brush (2 - review), extending the line a bit on the outer corner of your eye and apply the left-over shadow to the outer part of the lower lashline.
  • sweep a sheer wash of Catrice C'mon Chameleon eyeshadow (5 - review) with Hakuhodo S142 brush (3 - review) onto the lids, blend out with Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush (4 - review). apply a bit onto the lower lashline.
  • draw a relatively thick liner with Essence I Love NYC Gel Eyeliner (7 - review) along the upper lashline with For Your Beauty Lip Brush (6 - Rossmann brand), meet up with the black on the outer corner but no wing upwards.
  • curl lashes with Koji Eyelash Curler (8), apply 1 coat of Shiseido The Perfect Mascara (9).
  • apply false eyelashes (10) to the outer corners using this technique.

mini drugstore haul: amazing Catrice eyeshadows!

i went a bit drugstore shopping after a long hiatus and picked up two Catrice shadows and a cream eyeliner by Essence.

Catrice Heidi Plum

i'm not a fan so the name doesn't sound funny to me. this is a revamped version of the shadow, it was a matte grape colour before. in fact, the new shade is available for a long time now, but my local Catrice dealer hasn't carried it until now.
it comes in the regular stylish acrylic packaging reminiscent of Shu Uemura eyeshadows and contains 2g. it costs 2.49€.
this is a beautiful complex colour, sadly it doesn't swatch well. Heidi Plum is a rich purple colour with pink, gold and blue shimmer and a almost duochrome pink pearl sheen. it has a soft and fine texture with high pigmentation. it applies evenly and blends well without fall outs. i'm glad that the pink is not too overpowering on my lids since it has a dark smokey base colour and looks quite dimensional when applied. it's great to do a one-shadow-look, but also combined with deeper shades in a purple smokey eye.
a fabulous eyeshadow, a real must have at this small price!

here i wear Heidi Plum on the lids and blended out. combined with a purple liner and silver taupe on the lower lashline.

Catrice C'mon Chameleon!

C'mon Chameleon is a great eyeshadow, too. it's a duochrome eyeshadow of a warm brown base shade with a forest green sheen and green and teal shimmer. it has a soft texture and high pigmentation. it's told to be a dupe to MAC's infamous Club eyeshadow, but C'mon Chameleon is more shimmery with a more apparent duochrome than Club and its base colour is less red. overall, i like the Catrice shadow better since it also has a better texture.
it's predestinated to be a great one-shadow-look-colour to achieve a look as if you applied and layered different colours, packed on more intensely near the lashline with a high green sheen and blended out in the crease to a satin brown colour. its duochrome effect is even more intense when the shadow is layered on a dark base.
i think it looks great as a semi-colourful shade together with my new green cream liner by Essence :)
another must-have, and so affordable! (oh, and i always have a catchy tune when i read the name ;D)

here i applied it over the whole lid and lower lashline and blended out. the liner was the Essence Gel Eyeliner that i will show you just below ;)

Essence Gel Eyeliner in I Love NYC

i was curious about this shade for a long time, but always hesitated to buy because i experienced a slight transfer/stamp effect with the other shades i've tried from this range. I Love NYC is a dark shimmery green with teal tinge. it appears almost duochrome and looks great with a neutral eye make up as a special twist. i think it also looks great as a cream eyeshadow.
it has a creamy soft consistency, applies evenly and has a very high staying power, if i prime my lids with UDPP well before i use it, i can avoid it transferring to the upper lid. it applies semi opaque with one stroke, i need to go over it once to get a completely dense result.
i'm happy that you can get such a pretty colour at the drugstore. the little glass jar contains 3ml and costs about 2.95€

after the rub-test (it even left a stain after me rubbing it with a wet cleansing wipe)

Essence new range: eye brushes.

Essence also brought out two new eye brushes recently. because i already am so fond of their blush brush (which i used as a foundation brush back then, when i haven't yet discovered my faible for the BeautyBlender), i didn't have to hesitate buying these.
both come in this "flashy" packaging, they have matte black aluminium ferrules and plastic handles (which don't feel very sturdy...).

the Eyeliner Brush (1.25€) is of royal blue synthetic fibres. it's stiff and comes to a very fine edge. you can draw the thinnest line with this. for me, it's almost too thin. it's created to go with their new gel liners, but because it is so dense and stiff, it grabs too little product to apply as a rich coloured line. i have to dip into the cream liner few times to build up the intensity and to make the shimmers visible.
it's too thin to use as a brow brush, but i think it will be an awesome lip brush!

Ebelin Professional angled brush - Essence Eyeliner Brush - Sigma ss266 - Louise Young LY30
look how thin the lines can be.

the other brush is called Smokey Eyes Brush (1.45€). i initially think of a pencil or smudger brush when i hear this name, imlicating a smoked out liner and intense colour around your lashes. but nope, this is a rounded, fluffy short blending/crease type brush. it's made of very soft natural hair, which is dyed royal purple :/  (??). so at least i can easily detect it in my brushes-glass. fortunately it doesn't bleed purple dye while washing it. it also doesn't shed.
i was surprised how soft and gentle this is, but sadly the softness makes it lacking in flexibility or bounce. so it's not really suited to place an intense colour, in the crease or right near the lashes for a dramatic and defined smokey look.  but it's good for a "normal" smokey eye, and this is done much more often so in fact it's more useful that way.
it's a nice normal crease brush for people with smaller lid space, like a MAC 222 with shorter bristles (although the 222 is stiffer).

MAC 217 - Essence Smokey Eyes Brush - MAC 219 - Sigma ss219 - Hakuhodo B533BkSL brush - Da Vinci small round blender 4194

all in all i have to give both brushes two big thumbs up, for the innovation, for relatively good quality, for good function, and of course for the price tag.
have you tried them? how do you like them? does the "look" of these brushes shy you away?

at least an eyemake up i did with both brushes (i also used the MAC 242 partially.) the smokey eyes brush for crease work and blending, the liner brush for the eyeliner.
