finally the fall 2011 collections roll in, also Chanel's. i will review most of my purchases of the collection on this weekend and will use this post as an overview page, so you can check it to navigate through my Chanel Fall 2011 reviews.
before we start i want to tell you a shopping tip: except for the nailpolishes which i couldn't wait for and ordered somewhere else, i bought the rest from a perfume and cosmetics shop in Augsburg called Nägele.
the best part is that they offer 20% (or even 25%) discount for the whole product range from time to time. luckily these days too, so i could save about 40€ in total for my whole purchase. you can order via email, tell them what you need and your address and they will send it to you really quickly. free delivery for orders over 120€ value (so 100€ after the discount), below that they would charge 5€. you can pay via invoice or direct debit, weirdly no credit cards.
i have received a big package with many fabulous samples and the shopping experience was very nice, i will definitely get back to this great opportunity.
check their small webspace for contact data: naegele-perfumes.de.
next to the nail polishes, the star products launched with this collection surely are the new Illusion d'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadows. these cream shadows come in 6 sparkly shades and will be permanent additions to the range, so you don't need to rush out to get them - actually.
but since they are new and sparkly and look so beautiful and everybody wants to have them and many already do and we are women - yeah, you know the rest, i bought 4 shades right away.
this is much to read for you and to write for me - so let's jump right in with the shade #82 Émerveillé (which - of course - is french and means "enchanted" ;) ).
it comes in a sophisticated glass pot packaging and includes a mini synthetic angled brush with removeable cap on the end. the brush is only ok for application of the particular product, but it's a fantastic little lip brush! you can load it up with your lip colour of the evening, put the cap on and take it with you. it even fits into the smallest of small purses and applies your lipstick evenly and precise.
the pot contains 4g and costs 29,95€ (i paid 24€ at Nägele).
the eyeshadow looks like a crumbly and domed mass in that jar and feels soft and a bit bouncy to the touch, as if it were a foamy mousse. the texture is smooth and creamy, not a lot of product will be on my finger when i swipe over it (unlike the Benefit cream shadows, for example).
Émerveillé is a shimmery light peach colour, it's the most subtle and natural colour of the 6. it's finish also is the least sparkly and rather of a soft frosty type. it's a brightening, light catching colour that i like to wear on the inner corners and on the lower lashline, but it's a neutral colour that works well as a base colour for powder eyeshadows, too.
by trying different application techniques and tools, i find that these apply best with the MAC 242 brush. it will grab enough product (unlike some sleek haired brushes or fluffy brushes) and applies it evenly on your lids. the edges are easily blended out with a 217-type brush.
the staying power of these so called long wearing formula is only mediocre on my oily lids, about at the 6 hour mark they will start to crease. these are not a similar formula to MAC, MUFE or Benefit which will set to a smudgeproof finish, they rather stay a bit creamy and blendable. a thin layer of my UDPP will satisfactory prevent the creasing. and even though i don't like to wear a lid primer underneath any cream shadows (because i usually apply them in swirling motions with a fluffy brush the colour will look a bit dull when using UDPP underneath), the long wearing beautiful result of the Illusion d'Ombres entirely convinced me.

nomally i would combine it with darker shades, this is only for demonstration purposes.

for powder eyeshadows i think MAC Naked Lunch or Grand Entrance (LE) could also be similar.
you also might be curious how the colours of the new Illusion d'Ombre compare to the shades of Chanels Ombre Perlées palette (review: here, dupes: here) that was launched with their spring 2011 collection since the colour range appear similar on the first sight:
Émerveillé compared to the peachy shade in the Ombres Perlées palette |
these two shades look really close, also the finishes look similar. i think you don't need both.
please excuse the lengthy text since it contains a lot of introductionary stuff. i promise to keep it shorter for the next reviews ;)
so for those of you who only looked through the pictures some key messages:
- order at Nägele for a 20% discount
- the little brushes that comes with these are fabulous on-the-go lip brushes
- they apply best with the MAC 242
- apply a lid primer first to elongate the wearing time of these
- check for possible dupes you already have, especially the Chanel Ombres Perlées palette from spring.
Nice look as always! I was wondering, would you mind doing a tutorial on eyelining? You do it exceptionally well, with no gaps in between the lashes at all. My technique is not up to par yet, so it would be great to see some tips from the expert. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I really love the color! I don´t know why but it reminds me of MACs pigment in "Melon"? Really pretty!
ReplyDeleteSchöner, dezenter Schimmer - gefällt mir sehr gut ♥.
