i have ordered some products from Paul & Joe some months ago, i haven't had anything from this brand yet although i was interested in their single eyegloss in Murmur and their cream matte foundation for a long time. however the packaging always seemed a little too romantic/cute (reminds me of a colorful version of Rouge Bunny Rouge, but more vintage) and the price a little too high to buy sight unseen with ambivalent reviews in the back.
now they might have discontinued the mono eyeglosses and launched a line of duos some time ago, there are some shades in the limited summer collection also (at the time to a reduced price on asos.com). since the LE shades are a bit too light and bright for my taste, i went and finally ordered some P&J Eyeglosses from their permanent range on beautybay.com (they are not listed on asos.com).
the one i'm showing you today is shade #04 Bourgeoisie.
it comes in a double sided tube with floral design and consists of a sheer golden beige with multicolour shimmers and pearlescent flakies and a chocolate brown with pink and gold shimmer. the light side has a flocked doe foot applicator and a creamier consistency than the dark colour, which comes with a spongey doe foot shaped applicator and is more on the liquidy side. i like the dark shade better in this duo.
i find the texture of these quite hard to handle, they are very sheer, shimmery and thin so i would need to stipple or dab it on to achieve an even and visible result but not have a sheer mess over the whole place.
from the texture they remind me of the Guerlain Ombre Fusion (Havana, Maya) cream shadows, but a lot harder to maneuver since the Guerlain cream shadows stay creamy and blendable for a longer time and create a very even finish with their fine microsparkles.
these have a medium blendability and are not suited to pack on intensely since the texture balls up and feels thick and uncomfortable on the lids. using each color alone as a sheer wash of shimmer is beautiful, but both together for a complete look is rather tricky.
the staying power is very good, though. no creasing when worn alone but also nice as a shimmery base for powder eyeshadows. i like to use a 217-type brush with cream shadows, but i find these are best applied with the finger for an effortless messy eye make up.
all in all i'm disappointed with this product as a whole considering the high hopes i had for it, but i quite like the brown colour in this duo.
these contain 5.7ml altogether and cost 19.70€.

tihilw
i used the light colour on the inner half and the chocolate brown on the outer corner. MAC Coffee as a liner, Essence Love Me Tender eyeliner on the lower lashline.
Okay, I need to ask why it always says "tihilw" in your posts because I've never seen/ heard it before ^_^;
ReplyDeleteWow, it's very beautiful on your eyes :) I always steer away from cream eye shadows because they crease badly on mine. I love how this looks though although I am still afraid it won't look good on me. Plus, P&J is expensive! :p
ReplyDelete@eRIN: oh, it's just my abbreviation for "this is how it looks worn" since i was way to lazy to type that all over and over again in every post. so some time i went with the tihilw to make a category on it ;)
ReplyDelete@rainy days and lattes: thank you! i really love cream shadows. since they are not anymore greasy and creasing like 10 years ago, i really love them for a quick eye make up that looks light and effortless. and yes, i agree on p&J being expensive. i somewhat don't count them in with the high end brands, i see them on a similar level with benefit, tarte, urban decay and such, but they do high end prices.
Looks very pretty on your eyes :)

Oh wow! Ist das wirklich schön!
ReplyDeleteLG :)
I've had one P&J eye gloss which I've since given away.. it was one of the original in gold. I did not like it because of how difficult it was to use. It was a LOT of shimmer, but so sheer. It sounds like maybe they haven't changed a whole lot in that regard, but I kind of want to try again. It looks really pretty on you! Especially that brown color. :)
ReplyDeleteI have many P&J eye products and love the colors and textures, but I am no longer loving the trademark gold glitter they seem to put into everything. It doesn't stand up to sunlight--as in, way too obvious. That said, Bourgeoisie looks really gorgeous on you and doesn't appear too shimmery. I really like the darker side of the duo.
