artistic FOTD for New Year's Eve.

today i tried a more artistic makeup look, inspired by two of my favourite Rae's - Rae Chen from the Notice: a beauty blog (for the eye make up) and australian makeup artist Rae Morris (for the lips).
i wanted to do both elements from this FOTD since forever and a day, a liner-look and a glitter/duo-toned lip and i think it's wearable enough for an extravagant party. i think this makeup is at the same time edgy and puristic.

for the face:

foundation: i used Burberry Sheer Foundation in Trench No.4 (1), applied with the BeautyBlender (A) - this is not really a "brush-foundation"

contour: NARS Multiple Bronzer in Cap Vert (2) applied with MAC 109 brush (B)

blush: Guerlain Météorites Perles d'Or (3) from last year's holiday collection, applied with RMK Cheek Brush (D)

highlighter: Chanel Ombres Tissées in Beiges (4) applied with Hakuhodo G5537BkSL (C) onto the top of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, cupid's bow and everywhere you feel like

for the eyes:

brows: MAC Copperplate Eyeshadow (1) applied with Louise Young Brow Brush LY30 (A)

eye makeup: choose the design you like! it's really hard though, to get an even result on both eyes -.-

  • i applied MAC Shroom Eyeshadow (2) all over the lid and the brow bone area with Tom Ford Eyeshadow Brush (B) to get an even canvas.
  • for the liner, choose one that's really really smudgeproof on you! this is essential if you want to go out with this eye makeup. i started out with the K-Palette 1-Day-Tattoo Real Lasting Eyeliner (3) which is both extremely longlasting and extremely precise and easy to handle, but after i was done with one eye, the liner was used up so i had to finish the other side with a gel liner - i chose Catrice Gel Liner in Black Jack with Jack Black (4) and applied it with Hakuhodo K007 Eyeliner Brush (C). you could use a very pale, matte grey eyeshadow to trace a shape before you go in with deep, wuite unforgiving black liner, but i did it free-handed.
  • then i applied Lancôme's Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara (5) and false eyelashes (6), this time the conventional way for a intended fake and OTT look.
  • to play up the contrast between bare skin and stark liner even more, i drew a pale beige liner (7) onto the lower inner rim to brighten it - no mascara on the lower lashes, please!

for the lips:

  • i used a longlasting lip colour in a dusty magenta shade (Manhattan Lips2Last 47R (1) as a base, applied it with Essence Eyeliner Brush (A)
  • to deepen and brighten the colour i went over it with Chanel Rouge Allure Velvets (2) in L'Exuberante (a bright magenta) onto the heart of the lip and La Fascinante (a blood red) on the outer parts, also with the Essence Brush.
  • then i dabbed a mix of MAC Naval Blue Pigment (3) and an intense pink pigment by Basic (4) onto the center of the upper lip.
  • i dabbed some of Bare Minerals True Gold Eyeshadow (5) onto the center of the lower lip.
  • finished with clear gloss by Bobbi Brown.

would you go out with a look like this ;) ?

i wish all of you a good start in the new year!

Manhattan ♥ Cherry Lips Lipgloss.

i'm really digging glossy truly peach lips this summer, so i first wanted to search for something in the drugstore. the only bright glossy peach i found was this lipgloss, i think it's a limited edtion by Manhattan and is called Manhattan ♥ Cherry Lips. i bought the shade 32K. it contains 10ml and costs 3.95€.
it's a peach with slight pink hints and lots of very fine gold shimmer and pink sparkles. it comes in a tube but has a long doe foot shaped flocked applicator instead of a squeeze tip. i don't like the packaging because it easily gets quite messy. when you press on the tube the stopper can't hold off the gloss from being squeezed out.
the lipgloss has an artificial sweet fruity scent and a creamy non sticky consistency. although it's not very thick, it feels quite so on the lips.
it applies evenly but rather sheer and the pink undertone also tones down the peach effect on my lips so this is not the result i was searching for. the shimmer is very discreet. the gloss lasts about 2-3 hours on me.
i've also ordered the Chanel Extrait de Gloss in Génie, i hope it will give me the desired peach lip. so stay tuned for that review ;)

FOTD Humid

this is one of my attempts on a colourful, but still not yelling "colourful!" look.
i tried different lipcolours, which do you prefer?

foundation: Clarins Teint Haute Tenue/Everlasting Foundation +  Guerlain Lingerie de Peau + BeautyBlender
Kanebo/Sensai Translucent Loose Powder + Artdeco skunk brush
NYX Taupe blush +  MAC 138
Chanel Espiègle Joues Contraste + MakeUpShow blush brush
Shu curlers, Shiseido brow pencil GY901, Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer + Hakuhodo brush + Manhattan Wake Up concealer + Maybelline Stretch&Define Waterproof mascara + L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes mascara
all MAC: Satin Taupe on lower lash line (+ Sigma ss239), Vex in inner corner (+ Sigma ss239), Humid on the lid (+ MAC 242), Club in the crease (+ MAC 222) + Sigma ss217 to blend out
Urban Decay Primer Potion, L'Oreal Super Liner, a really old eyeliner by Manhattan, that has the same duochrome like MAC Club (for the waterline)
swatch of Manhattan eyeliner.

below the lip challenge:
in the left corner Revlon Coral Reef, the colourful lip - in the right corner Manhattan Water Flash lipgloss + MAC 2N, the nude lip.

i think i like the colourful version better, looks more like a living person ;) what do you think?

long lasting lip colours

the idea of a thin coat of long lasting colour with a clear glossy top coat is great, especially for bold colours. however i seem to get sucked in by the lighter tones again :P
with those, i find the cheaper ones from dugstore brands not inferior to more expensive brands, they work the same.
the base colour is very drying, whatever brand you choose. and if you don't use a veeeery thin coat of it, it will crack and crumble on your lips anyway (but some brands less than others). apply the colour on bare lips (take off anything that was on there), that have received a good scrub beforehand and are soaked full with balm, to achieve the highest longevity of the lipgloss. i get at least 5-6 hours of even-colour-wear with them, eating+drinking included, they will also survive "light" kissing. i like that they are transfer resistant.
the thing to maintain the colour is the top coat. you should keep reapplying it regularly, as most times it's of a thinner formula and won't last very  long on your lips.

i know MAC also has such lipglosses, but Manhattan (drugstore) also offers a nice range of colours at a fraction of the cost, so i did never see a reason to purchase the expensive version. also because trying it over and over at the counter never wowed me in no way at all.

special tip: don't drink too much strong alcoholic drinks when you wear such a lipcolour - the alcohol will break the colour surface on your lips, dry it and cause it to crumble off of your lips, which doesn't look very sexy particularly if it's a bold colour. i speak from experience ;)

Manhattan Lips2Last
there is a nice selection of colours by Manhattan, they don't only have darker shades, but also some naturals and even nudes (which are rare in those in the drugstore world). they cost about 5.50€.
the colour side has a doe foot applicator while the gloss side, in this case it's more like a glossy balm, has a weird soft brush of natural hair (i think it is). if you don't want to ruin the clear gloss (like i did), you should apply it onto the back of your hands before dabbing it on with your finger.
the colour "lacquer" is of  a thin formula, but very pigmented and incredibly longlasting. i still have a light pinkish swatch mark on my arm from the weekend - even though i have rubbed my skin over and over again, even with alcohol. but on your lips, it's not that bad, with a little rubbing i can get it off with my normal cleaning wipes.
i don't like that Manhattan still doesn't have names for their products, the numbers are horrible.

#59C
is a light pearly peach-pink.

#44Q
is a bright china red, no shimmer. my favourite for a red lip. because i only wear a red lip when i demand for attention, and then i will wear the brightest red i can find ;)  and this is sooo low-maintainance!  it's great!
Manhattan 44Q without the gloss on top - please excuse my sloppy outlines as i wanted to swatch it quickly before the lighting got worse :)
Manhattan 44Q with the gloss added

Basic Perfect Kiss Permanent Lipgloss
again the same idea, this time with a more liquidy lipgloss on the other end, which comes with a very nice brush applicator. the scent of it is very very artificial/plasticy, so i can't recommend it to sensitive noses :( . you can get this brand at Schlecker, i think the glosses were about 4€ each. they don't have names either, i don't think they even have numbers?

the lighter one i have is a blue-toned light pink. it does have slight silver pearl to it if you look closely.
i think i got too little gloss on this swatch

the other shade is a raspberry-plum, a great colour for fall.

so how do you like these? have you tried them?
