artistic FOTD for New Year's Eve.

 

today i tried a more artistic makeup look, inspired by two of my favourite Rae's - Rae Chen from the Notice: a beauty blog (for the eye make up) and australian makeup artist Rae Morris (for the lips).
i wanted to do both elements from this FOTD since forever and a day, a liner-look and a glitter/duo-toned lip and i think it's wearable enough for an extravagant party. i think this makeup is at the same time edgy and puristic.


for the face:

foundation: i used Burberry Sheer Foundation in Trench No.4 (1), applied with the BeautyBlender (A) - this is not really a "brush-foundation"

contour: NARS Multiple Bronzer in Cap Vert (2) applied with MAC 109 brush (B)

blush: Guerlain Météorites Perles d'Or (3) from last year's holiday collection, applied with RMK Cheek Brush (D)

highlighter: Chanel Ombres Tissées in Beiges (4) applied with Hakuhodo G5537BkSL (C) onto the top of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, cupid's bow and everywhere you feel like


for the eyes:

brows: MAC Copperplate Eyeshadow (1) applied with Louise Young Brow Brush LY30 (A)

eye makeup: choose the design you like! it's really hard though, to get an even result on both eyes -.-

• i applied MAC Shroom Eyeshadow (2) all over the lid and the brow bone area with Tom Ford Eyeshadow Brush (B) to get an even canvas.
• for the liner, choose one that's really really smudgeproof on you! this is essential if you want to go out with this eye makeup. i started out with the K-Palette 1-Day-Tattoo Real Lasting Eyeliner (3) which is both extremely longlasting and extremely precise and easy to handle, but after i was done with one eye, the liner was used up so i had to finish the other side with a gel liner - i chose Catrice Gel Liner in Black Jack with Jack Black (4) and applied it with Hakuhodo K007 Eyeliner Brush (C). you could use a very pale, matte grey eyeshadow to trace a shape before you go in with deep, wuite unforgiving black liner, but i did it free-handed.
• then i applied Lancôme's Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara (5) and false eyelashes (6), this time the conventional way for a intended fake and OTT look.
• to play up the contrast between bare skin and stark liner even more, i drew a pale beige liner (7) onto the lower inner rim to brighten it - no mascara on the lower lashes, please!

for the lips:

• i used a longlasting lip colour in a dusty magenta shade (Manhattan Lips2Last 47R (1) as a base, applied it with Essence Eyeliner Brush (A)
• to deepen and brighten the colour i went over it with Chanel Rouge Allure Velvets (2) in L'Exuberante (a bright magenta) onto the heart of the lip and La Fascinante (a blood red) on the outer parts, also with the Essence Brush.
• then i dabbed a mix of MAC Naval Blue Pigment (3) and an intense pink pigment by Basic (4) onto the center of the upper lip.
• i dabbed some of Bare Minerals True Gold Eyeshadow (5) onto the center of the lower lip.
• finished with clear gloss by Bobbi Brown.

Bare Minerals High Shine Eyecolor in Glisten.

sorry for being rather MIA the last days and the lack of posts!
now i'm back into blogging and have so many things to share with you - starting with the Bare Minerals High Shine Eyecolor in Glisten.
it's a loose shadow that comes in a 90ies style applicator-in-a-tube-packaging. it looks nice but is a total mess to use. it has a spring mechanism so it will pop up after screwing it open. the applicator is huge and everytime i'm taking it out of the tube some product will fly around.
Glisten is a highly metallic taupe with pale antique gold sheen. it's really a chameleon colour that looks taupe or gold depending on the angle and light you look at it. i don't have a similar colour in my stash.
since i don't like to use the big foam applicator i tried to take the product with a brush from there but this seems ineffective. it's really the best way to get the shadow on your eyelid using the applicator, with it you will get the most opaque and metallic finish,  and then work out the edges with your brushes/tools.
on the downside there is a lot of fall out with it, so i would strongly recommend to apply the foundation after your eye make up.
it has a great staying power and keeps the foil-like shine over the whole day without creasing or fading. the reflective shine creates a bright look but i would need to frame it with a warmer shade to balance it out.
i paid 18$ for this on ebay (shipping included) and it contains only 1.5g. i think Bare Minerals products are always quite overpriced as they usually contain only a small amount of product.

i applied Glisten on the lid and framed it with Twinks eyeshadow from MAC. eyeliner was Urban Decay Roach.

Bare Minerals True Gold.

Bare Minerals True Gold eyeshadow is our gold eyeshadow of the day and at the same time the last eyeshadow of this series that i want to show you. so tomorrow i will post the big round up ;)
this is a Glimmer eyeshadow, so it's highly shimmery.
Bare Minerals loose eyeshadows contain only 0.57g and cost 14£. i ordered it on lookfantastic.com.
i think they are very expensive for the amount (and feeling) you get - i would only buy them if the colour is truly captivating.
True Gold is a warm 24k gold with tons of shimmer, glimmer and sparkle. it applies as a metallic finish with lots of sparkles. it has a fine and loose texture and adheres well to the skin, although i would still recommend an eyelid primer to narrow down the fall out (even though it's minimal from the beginning). it's not very opaque but builds up nicely and is especially metallic when used wet.
it blends ok and lasts well on my eyes.
this is a great party/going out/evening-shade, it looks amazing in dark royal blue or purple smokey eyes.

Bare Minerals Nude Beach

after this shade has been raved about by LisaLisaD1 and some other of my favourite "haulers" on youtube months and months ago, i definitely wanted to try this shade some time. i always hesitated because the Bare Escentuals (what's their real brand name actually? bare escentuals, bare minerals, i.d. minerals???) products are really pricey for what you get.
the loose mineral eyeshadows cost 14£/13$ for the tiniest amount of only 0.57g.
i ordered the Bare Minerals Nude Beach on lookfantastic.com while they had a sale going on and free delivery, so it was less painful for my budget (i would pay a lot for good stuff, but not if i only get µg-amounts of them!).
as always with lookfantastic, she shipping time was incredibly long. i waited almost 4 weeks for this order from the uk!
this loose eyeshadow comes in a simple sifter jar. Nude Beach belongs to their Glimmer line, which are more sparkly than the Velvet or Glimpse shadows. it's a high shimmer mauvey beige with an almost metallic finish. the texture is rather dry, i guess because it doesn't contain binding ingredients. i would describe it as a glitter/loose shadow-hybrid. so be careful with your application, pressing motions are better than swiping in order to avoid fall outs. a good eyelid primer or cream eyeshadow as a base would also help. on my lids, it's very shiny and glowy and gives a bright awake look. it's not as subtle or dimensional as i have imagined by LisaLisaD1's descriptions and remembers me of MUFE Aqua Cream #13 in its metallic effect.
i didn't have problems with creasing or fading (but that's due to Urban Decay's PP), it didn't get into my eyes and irritate them as well.
this Glimmer is definitely something for fans of highly shimmery eyeshadows, and as i am, i'm a bit curious to try out some more shades...
but in the end i find it too expensive for this little mixture of mica and different pigments and feel that you pay for the brand name and marketing  although they aren't even attractive to me.
