MAC Blushes revisited: Gentle.

this is MAC Mineralize Blush in Gentle. it's one of the permanently available shades of MAC's baked blushes.

lightweight baked minerals should enhance the luminosity of your cheeks. the Mineralize Blushes contain 3.5g and cost 23€ (in germany) /22$/19£.
they only come in the container form and not as a refill pan because of their lower stability due to the baked formula and the dome shape that wouldn't fit into the Pro Palettes anyway.

Gentle is a rich rose colour with purple hues. it has a fine shimmer with tiny crystal sparkles. i have mentioned before that i like the baked blushes by MAC because they have a nice shimmer but don't look frosty, and Gentle is not different.
it has a dry and little bit powdery texture, a good pigmentation but sheers out beautifully for just a hint of a flush. i think it looks great on my skintone (NC20-25) and with my dark hair and eyes.
i especially like to wear it in autumn and winter, it's a beautiful contrast to golden and warm earthy tones that i like to pull out in this time of the year. the berry pink shimmery flush also looks good with the less glowy foundations that i use around the colder seasons.
the colour lasts on me quite well.

EDIT: wow, this is already my 500th post! ;)

L'Oreal HIP Metallic Shadow Duo in Electrified.

the L'Oreal HIP Metallic Shadow Duo in Electrified is the eyeshadow duo i initially searched for when i came across Gilded (review here). i saw Electrified on Jen from FromHeadToToe and totally had to have it ;)

again, i had to buy it on ebay since L'Oreal doesn't sell its HIP (High Intensity Pigments) line in germany. it was around 6-8€ with shipping included which is a much nicer price than what L'Oreal costs here.

the simple plastic container opens in two ways, on the bottom part is a tiny useless sponge tip applicator that only makes the packaging bulkier than it needs to be.
it contains 2.4g.

Electrified contains two beautiful colours: a highly metallic silvery taupe, which is really interesting in its complexity of undertones and the reason why i wanted this duo in the first place, and a deep pearly blackened purple with red undertones that looks just average from afar but in fact is a complex mix of pink and blue shimmer particles.
i think the texture of this duo is a lot better than from the Gilded duo, the metallic taupe is smooth and very pigmented and applies as a beautiful reflective shadow on the lids. it's easily blendable and doesn't have fall outs. the dark purple shade is rather sheer for such a dark colour but still applies evenly with nice pay off and is easily buildable without fall outs. it doesn't glide as smoothly on the lids as the taupe shade, but doesn't feel dragging like the dark brown in Gilded duo. on the other hand it lacks the intensity-contrast of Gilded to balance out the metallic effect from it's counterpart.
the metallic taupe is such a great colour with high impact to use in a night time eye make up, but the purple needs some boost from a dark base or a black shadow.
the shadows last very well on my oily lids when i prime with UDPP, no creasing or fading of intensity.
all in all, this is a very very beautiful duo and i'm pissed that L'Oreal doesn't sell the good stuff over here. you need to try it if you love metallic shadows or taupes.

L'Oreal Electrified with flashlight

this is how it looks on me:

#1

for this lighter look i used the metallic taupe on the inner 2/3 of the lid and the lower lashline and applied the dark purple on the outer parts and into the crease area. i also used it as a liner shade for the upper lashline. then added a true purple eyeliner on the waterline to give it some more colour.

#2

for the smokier eye make up i applied the dark shade all over the lid and on the lower lashline and added highlights on the center of the dark colour and on the inner corner with the metallic shade. a bit of MAC Vex in the inner corners, too and lastly black liner for the waterline.

Bare Minerals Glisten - L'Oreal Electrified - Hourglass Exhibition - MAC 100 Strokes - Artdeco #96

the metallic taupe shade is almost an exact dupe to Bare Minerals High Shine Eyecolor in Glisten, just a mini bit less golden.
the dark purple looks most similar to MAC 100 Strokes in real (here with flashlight) but 100 Strokes is really crappy and poorly pigmented (had to really build it up here). it's obviously a lot lighter than the purple shade in Hourglass Exhibition duo and less red-toned than Artdeco's #96.
although the colour combination reminds of NARS Melusine, they are totally different colours.

MAC Blushes revisited: Dollymix.

today i want to continue the MAC Blushes revisited series (overview post) with Dollymix Sheertone Shimmer Blush.

Dollymix is a typical 80ies pink, rich (almost berry), bright, cool toned, with a blueish/silver sheen. the texture is nice and fine, the shimmer is not frosty so it won't create a greasy skin appearance. although this is such a hot pink, with a light hand it applies sheerly and still very evenly and blendable. the shimmer translates to a white sheen. you can easily build it up to a brighter colour which would look great on deeper skin tones, but with too much colour on very fair or very dark skin, this will most likely look quite disco-esque ;)
lasting power is average on my oily skin (about 6-8h).
i really like this colour, i think it looks great against my dark hair and eyes.

MAC Blushes come in the signature simple plastic compact with transparent lid. it contains 6g of product and retails for 22€ (in germany)/17£/19.50$ in a container and 18€ (in germany)/14£/16.50$ as a refill pan.
i like them for the huge colour range with different finishes. the rather affordable price point and the easy accessibility make them a fabulous basic range to start your blush selection with. plus, MAC products are probably the most discussed in the online beauty world so you can easily find good reviews and photos for products you might not be able to test in real. the quality is medium-high according to the different finishes while i like the Sheertone finish the most.

foundation overview #16: Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation.

i've been testing the Laura Mercier Silk Crème Luminous Coverage Foundation over the past few months. i bought it on ebay for about 30$.
it comes in a opaque squeeze tube and contains 35ml. i chose the shade Cream Ivory.

it claims to give you    "The ultimate in flawless natural coverage. Silk Crème Foundation is a beautiful, light-diffusing formula offering advanced light-reflection properties which cause fine lines and wrinkles to optically vanish. Laura created an innovative foundation that delivers flawless, buildable coverage in a long wearing rich hydrating base."

and i must say, i'm not very impressed.

Cream Ivory is a shade too light for me, i'm about NC22 in MAC right now. it might match NC15-20, with peachy undertones. i think i will only use it for the palest of pale days in winter times. but other than that i think that it doesn't feel lightweight at all, it's a rich, creamy texture and has a very high coverage that you must blend out and buff in well to avoid it looking mask-like. fortunately it spreads very nicely, i like to use a dense synthetic brush the best. but still, i find that it sits like a heavy cream on my face as if it contains a bit too much of titanium dioxide. it has a weird scent, too. like from fermenting fruits...
the finish isn't very luminous either, it's quite dull and semi-matte the first two hours after application and needs to emoliate with my skin's natural oils to become more satiny/glowy. it doesn't oxidize on me. i like that it sets dry to the touch and stays on quite well, even after 9 hours i still had good coverage and not so much shine. it does settle into fine lines a little bit when worn alone without a powder.
setted with the Translucent Setting Powder by Laura Mercier though, this makes the best oil-controlling combination i've tried so far.
i think it's quite nice for oily skin like mine, but i don't like the feeling at all. i might mix it with lighter foundations or with a serum...
