foundation overview #15: Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation.

i have the feeling that the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation is one of the most popular drugstore range foundations, i've read so many rave reviews about it and it even seemed to withstand the comparison to some great higher end products.

drugstores near me don't offer this brand, but luckily i found "my" shade by reading through many reviews and Temptalia's helpful foundation matrix, so i could order it on asos.com. there was a sale going on, so i paid 8£ for it instead of 10£ (30ml). it came very quickly delivered even though shipping was for free.

it claims to give you up to 16h of "Perfectly glowing complexion & Toned skin" with the Radiance-boosting Fruit therapy (different fruit/root extracts) to nourish your skin: Apricot for radiance, Melon for hydration, Apple for anti-oxidant(s?) and Ginger for energy.

it comes in a plastic bottle with vacuum pump mechanism which is great to maintain your product staying fresh and keep it from oxidising. the pump works very precisely.
the foundation itself has a liquidy consistency without being runny and has a pleasant fresh scent of green tea.
i chose the shade 52 Vanilla for my NC 22ish skin in MAC. the colour matches me pretty well. it's a neutral shade which lacks a bit of yellow for me, though. it doesn't oxidise and get darker on my skin.

i applied it both with a brush and the BeautyBlender sponge and found it very easy to spread and blend. it has a medium coverage, it concealed my blemishes well when my skin was very touchy. but now, when my skin got better and became more calm, i still like to use it a lot. it's lightweight and the rather dewy finish makes it looking very natural. it seems to contain light reflecting particles, but i haven't noticed shimmering bits in the bottle or on my skin, just an utterly fine pearl sheen.
this is not the best for evening out or refining, but does add a healthily moisturised appearance to my skin (which you could refer to as a "glow" or "radiance"). it sets dry to the touch but keeps the nice sheen. also it doesn't settle into pores or collect in fine lines.
from texture and result, i would rate it as an in-between of Vichy's Aera Teint Pure and Lancôme Teint Miracle foundations.
on my oily skin, it lasts quite well - not the promised 16 hours at all, but good 8-10h of wear without greasing up, getting blotchy or disappearing in big parts. it's moisturising but not too much for my oily skin. i get shiny after 5-6 hours and would need to blot then.
it didn't cause me any irritations or break outs, but compatibility is an individual matter anyways.
overall i think this is a very good foundation, the fact that it's so affordable is a big plus. i wear it quite often only with a soft touch of cream blush to fake a good-skin-day ;)

  1. I have it, and i have the same opinion :) You can also try the Healthy Mix Serum if you haven't, i get oily quickly with it (well i get oily with everything) but i love the texture. I find it also a bit neutral for me, i'm mac nc30 in prolongwear which is perfect tone for me. <3 Love your blog

  3. Bourjois is reasonably well-priced and you have many shades to choose from. I'd read great reviews about the Healthy mix concealer too.

  7. It's really hard to find an ideal shade for one's skintone based on just online stuff. So far I haven't had the best of luck with the foundation matrix - it's always a bit too light for my skin!

I love the idea of this foundation. Especialy for that price.

  8. thank you everybody!

i really find the foundation matrix very helpful in terms of getting an idea of what one's skin tone would match in the shade range of a particular product, however i also feel that the shades there are often chosen a bit too light.

  10. I bought mine on asos too and am patiently waiting until they have the serum version. We have this brand in canada but it's soo much more expensive than what they offer on asos, which is so funny because its halfway across the world from me. Free shipping is awesome too, LOVE asos.

  12. Thanks a lot for the review! Looking for this I found your blog and am loving it, it's on my Reader now

Could you go into a bit more detail as to why you don't think it's good for evening out or refining? I'm curious as to why, since I'm almost buying it at ASOS as well, but I'm researching a bit more!

  13. Thanks for the review! I've been really tempted, and since the local (I live in Belgium) drugstore is having a 2 Bourjois products for 15 euros deal, I went to try some on my face today. I do really like the finish. It doesn't offer too much coverage (I don't need much anyway though), but it's lovely, dewy, and gives me an almost airbrushed effect. However, very unfortunate for me, after a mere 4 hours my combination skin became pretty oily, even my cheeks have a bit of shine which almost never happens :( Maybe I should try to put my finishing powder on it and give it another go. I guess there is a reason why I don't own one single foundation yet (shame on me)!

  14. For a drugstore foundation this truly beats many high-end foundations I've tried.. Love the finish of it but it can get too dewy in my hot humid weather.. So this is best kept for the winter days..
