sorry for not posting as regularly but last week i basically lost all my photos. an update of iPhoto (which i use to organize all my pics) for the new Mac OS X Mountain Lion has absolutely messed up my complete photo library, containing almost 14 000 images. as my last back up was wayyyy too long ago - yeah, that Time Machine program is f*cked up, too - i don't really get my work back if i restore the system. at least i know that my precious private photographs are not gone, which is always my biggest fear when shit like this happens. the pics are somewhere all over the place on the hard drive, just not where they're supposed to be and so complicated to access that i am just too exasperated to deal with it. i'm actually quite pissed with my computer and keep neglecting it. i had prepared material for over 50 blog posts, but am just too annoyed to get it back together at the moment. i hope i can shoot new stuff this weekend, i'm just sick of thinking about all the lost work. ARGH!!!

Computers are great, but when they crap out, they plain SUCK.
My memory card messed up about three months ago, and I lost ALL of my pictures, too...(yea I don't even put the pictures in my computer! Because I broke two computers...and of course I lost a lot of pictures...I just don't trust computers any more) what I do now is edit all the blog pictures right after I took them and saved as drafts, after I tested out the products I would go ahead write the review ...

ReplyDeleteOh no! When we updated I don't think anything changed with iPhoto. That sucks that happened to you. They are on there somewhere though. You'll find them! I hate how Apple hides the iPhoto location. It's so weird. That's not good to hear that Time Machine is screwed up because that's what we are using too. GAH! I hope it gets worked out for you soon. i would be going crazy! (((hugs)))

I was wondering if something had gone awry just because I had noticed the consistency of the latest postings that you've done since you came back from you hiatus, and then suddenly the lack of explanation for their halt left me wondering if a technical issue had reared its ugly head :/ I am so sorry...I understand neglecting the problem, haha I tend to neglect backups and organization of files when I am switching computers and that's nothing compared to the issue you've been confronted with. I hope you can get the blog up and running soon and all of the files recovered and re-organized where you want them to be!
ReplyDeleteAww sorry :( My external drive on which I backup with Time Machine crashed not long ago and I had to scratch and reformat it, which means I did lost some private pics I had no other backup of, I'm so sad :(
ReplyDeleteAt least, as you said, your pics are somewhere! Have you tried doing a search in Finder based on the file extension?
Oh that sucks!!! I've had a similar experience before, only milder- I lost 1 month's worth of photos. Hope it works out in the end!

ReplyDeleteOh no!! Did you have iCloud set up? I imagine if you didn't purchase extra storage with icloud it wouldn't have all the photos backed up to it but some of them at least! I work at a Mac repair place and see this stuff happening all the time (sadly). Is the iPhoto library the only thing you lost? That's weird if it did! Maybe it just created a new library?? If that's the case try holding down the "option" key when you click on iphoto to see if there is more than one library to open. If it's a lot of data you can take it to a repair shop that does data recovery and ask if they can attempt to recover deleted files. Lemme know if you want some help and I can try to as best as I can!! Take care ! /: <3

The most important thing is to leave your devices like that and NOT to save anything new, since there might be a slight chance of recovery.
Hope you can still recover your data (or sort through)!
