Essence new range: eyeshadows

i bought these two eyeshadows, which are new shades of Essence's line. both really meet my taste and are rather unique for the usual drugstore range.

the packaging is a simple clear plastic, but with little twists, like the "essence" relief writing on the sides or the different level printing of the writing to give some more dimensional effect. but not very high quality to me.
each pan contains 2.5g and costs something around 1.50€.

#45 Back To Khaki

is a "metallic effect" eyeshadow. it's a shimmery pewter with gold sheen. applied on the eyes it has more of a green tinge than swatched. the texture is a bit powdery but has a good pigmentation. remember to tap your brush to avoid fall outs. with an eyeshadow base, i don't experience early creasing or fading.  this shade i can totally recommend!

i also compared it to a lot other shades: it's most alike to Lancôme's Erika F., but lacks the crystal like sparkles that makes Erika F. that special. meanwhile it has a golden sheen, which on the other hand lets it stand out from the rest.

#46 Taupe Of The Pops

is a shimmer effect eyeshadow. it's a light golden sand with a very fine shimmer which i would rather call a satin finish. it 's more firmly pressed than the other shadow and applies more sheer. it's also a bit powdery when using an eyeshadow brush. i like to use it as a base colour all over the lid or as a wash of colour to darken your lid a bit to not look too naked when you only wear mascara on your eyes. i'm not 100% convinced with this colour, i'll have to see if i will grab it more often in my daily routine.

i haven't got much shades that look alike. NARS Cairo and Ashes To Ashes both are darker and more mauvey. it has the same intensity as Urban Decay Ruthless, but is more golden.

  1. I got an eyeshadow from essence which is from the old range and looks very similar to the first eyeshadow. I believe they're actually the same from comparing the one I bought and the new range, just with a new name and number ^^

  2. It was taupe of the pops that I was after, but seeing this name on the back made me experience a spontaneous boycott reaction :P I just couln't buy it, I couldn't D:
Having Ruthless is an additional reason for not buying it I suppose. Thanks for the great comparisons!

  3. @inyourface.at: hmm, same colour - different names? that sounds bad! (they could use some new names over at p2 hahaha)

@2espresso: yes, the name makes me cringe, too. haha. memories of the cheesy mc's ole tillmann and holger speckhahn (!) urrghs... i could peel off the label...
